Default Squeaky Brakes

I have a 2000 S80 2.9 and lately the brake have begun to squeak when I stop. I've had both the Volvo dealership and Merlin Muffler and Brakes take a look at them and both of them say that nothing is wrong, its probably brake dust. We as I 've had this car for over 4 yearsw this is the first time that "brake dust" has cause my brakes to squeak.

Does anyone have any ideas what I a can do (short of replacing the brake pads and rotors) get rid of this noise.

Generally your brakes make noise because the "anti squeal" has worn off from the backs of the pads. Use either synthetic grease or CRC Disc Brake Quiet............the latter sprays on. You will have to remove the pads to perform this service and so if your brakes are several years old.............well, pads are quite inexpensive and you should probably replace them. It is a very easy task that simply takes ten minutes per wheel.

Thanks, I'll give it a try. But as I am mechanically challenged, I think I'll leave it up to my friendly Merlin Man to do (He's waaay cheaper than a Volvo dealership).

I have had brake squeaking when I use anything but Geuine Volvo Brake Pads. They cost more, but they are worth it. Tell the Merlin Man you want OEM.

Thumbs up Good Fix For Noisy Brakes

So i had the same issue on my 96 volvo and i took it to the shop to get looked at. They said it was normal but they suggested that if they put the spray on stuff again it would be fixed. I tried that but some time later the problem came back. I asked the shop what gives, and they said that they could try it again. Before they did that i asked them how long they waited for the stuff to dry before they put the wheels back on and they said 20 mins. I read somewhere that this has to be a whole day type thing. You have to deal with not having your car for most of the day but i read that you have to put on one coat and leave the pads resting. Then come back later on and put another coat on and leave them resting again. I also read that this needed to get done about 4-5 times and then put everything back together. This worked like a charm and then the squeak went away. It was this or the teflon shims but i have heard that these are bad news, any thoughts?

Just put some silicon grease on the back of pads and back of shims.
