[align=left]How do you know it's not charging? Does the battery go dead?

A lot of times, when I have a problem like this, I'll go ahead and replace the battery at the same time as the alternator. How old is your battery? Do you know? If not, then just as a good measure, I would replace the battery too. Then you know your whole charging system is new.

Check the Alt. gounding.
If the ground wire is messed up it will cause the same problem.

jsinton& tech: okay on the battery. it's new(i believe 580 amps cold is the term). I'll check on the grounding although I think it's ok.

Hey guys thanks. It's unusual for a newly reconstructed alt. to be a lemon but ithappens. I'llhave thenext one checked before

it's mounted . Have a good one!

jsinton & tech: just thought of something that might help. The battery light does not come on so I had no idea that the alt. was

not charging. Does that info help? I had the car's battery and alt. testedfor performance and that's howI found the problem.

jsinton, tech: I've narrowed the problem down to the regulator. w/o the A/C or headlights the reading for voltage is app. 13.5 v.

W/A/C on, the voltage drops.[&:] Leslie

You're still not telling us how you know it's not charging. Does the battery go dead?

The regulator is in the alternator.
