Default radio code bypass?

Ok, so after doing the PCV system and various work on my 95 850, I wanted to turn the radio back on. I don't have the code (just got the car used from a private party), but I read somewhere about a fix that worked on a 94 850:

1) with the ignition on, turn off the radio using the volume/power ****
2) hold down the preset button "6"
3) turn on the radio using the volume/power ****, with the preset button "6" still held down.
4) your radio will turn on and bypass code authentication.

This saved me some time and trouble, as it is Sunday and dealers are closed, but I can confirm that it works on my 1995 850 radio. (811 I think).

I found the limitations of this - after a few minutes, it will lock itself again, and every time you restart the car it will also lock itself again. You can unlock it doing the same thing, but maybe this "unlock" is actually just some kind of temporary testing mode? Ah well, it works till I go to the dealer tomorrow.

chack all paper work ..like manual or service booklet and look for any four digit number hand written on it. That might be the code. I found code for both of mine volvos in that way. One had a bussiness card with number on it and other one had a number written on the last page of the user manual.
Nothing to loose :P

after you figure out the code use a good sharpie or white out and put it on the side of the radio.

New to the Forums and I know this is an old thread, but it may be picked up. I haven't figured out how to do a new post yet. My daughter's 1997 850R needs her code for the radio. I have the vin and radio numbers is there anywhere on line that pick up the code.

I did check all the paperwork that was with car thinking someone may have written it down. I did not look however on the radio...what a good idea. Anyway let me know with regards to an internet site.

Next time I will get the posting down and do it correctly.

Default Radio Codes

Thanks;

I was trying to find something open; most service centers close @ 12:00. Alaska not open on Saturday and Honolulu had to leave a message.

After you get the radio code, write it on the passenger side sun visor mirror cover.

Is only a lighthearted joke but the World is also larger than North America.
Such a resource could readily be internet accessible world wide for everyone to benefit from.
