Rear View Mirror Replacement
Everyone,
I just purchased a 2006 S40. I love the car, but really miss having an auto-dimming rear-view mirror. The car I purchased has the manual unpowered variety. I found a Compass-Auto Dim mirror on-Bay from a 2006 S40. My question is what would installation entail? I have installed many after-market mirrors on other vehicles before, so my question is more of a technical one. Does anyone know if the car has a standard harness for these types of mirrors? Is there a software upgrade required for the car? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I also have an auto-dim/compass mirror I picked up from ebay for my 2004.5. Did you have any luck installing yours? Before I purchased it I checked and saw a power connector already in place. However, the connector goes to the rain-sensor for the wipers (car doesn't have that option so it wasn't plugged in) and it doesn't mate to the mirror's connector. I checked under the plastic fairing that houses the interior lights but didn't see any candidates. I've been looking to see if there's a pigtail that would work but no luck yet.

Not sure about the harness, but the dimming if controlled by a light sensor on the back of the mirror. I don't know if the mirror needs power to then dim the mirror or not. If that is the case, it probably isn't worth the trouble unless you have a powered mirror but just not the dimming rear view. IMHO.
