I needed to buy a new crank sensor, and I tried to take the old one off, I took the small bolt that holds it on off, but it was still firmly locked into place,

after examining the new sensor, I could not find any more locking or holding points, so i began to crank on it gradually left to right, as difficult as it was ( it is in a very awkward position to work on) and I wound up shearing half of it off, IT WOULD NOT MOVE!!!!

the bottom line, is i need to know what I gotta do to get the old part thats left, out and then getting the new one in will be a relative breeze

 

From what I gather from your post, and it is strictly a guess, you broke the sensor retaining bolt and want to know how to get it out so that you can install the new sensor? Well, considering the situation in its totality, better get some professional help, may be a mobile mechanic to come and try to get it out... Considering the location, it's not an easy job.

 

I replaced my CPS with no problems, I was lucky. From what I have read in this and other forums, if the remainder of the CPS falls into the bell housing, you pretty much have to drop the transmission to remove the broken part. Hopefully, someone who has been there and done that will reply, Sorry, I wish I had more.

 

Do we assume you have an automatic transmission? If so the correct way to fix this would be to remove the transmission and remove the sensor bracket.
It sounds like you broke the sensor off and there is a piece of it still in the bracket. I believe the only way you can remove the bracket is to pull the tranny. What I would do is spray the hole with a good penetrating oil and let it soak for a day or so. After a day or so soaking take a long thin punch and try to push (slight hammer pressure) the remaining part of the sensor into the transmission bell housing. Listen to hear if it falls when you push it out. Then turn the engine over by hand (crank bolt) and still listen to hear if the piece falls. Go under the car and take off the inspection plastic plate and see if the part comes out. Regardless I would install the new sensor and start it up. The piece that broke off shouldn't be larger then 1/4 " . That's probably what I would try before removing the transmission. If you want to be safe take out the tranny.

 

Oh if you broke the bracket that holds the sensor then you most likely need to remove the tranny. Good luck.
