Intermittent AC (not cooling) problems
Hello all,
I've search the forums and internet but couldn't find a similar issue. I have a 2007 Volvo S60 2.5T 2wd. My wife knocked the passenger side mirror off backing out of the garage the other day. The 'core' is in tact but I need to replace the mirror and housing. Apparently, this is also the side mirror that has the thermometer in it (stopped working and showed -- after the mirror broke off).
This may be just a coincidence but shortly after the ac started having intermittent cooling problems. After a few weeks, I've narrowed it down to the following scenario when it stops working - 7am drive in to work (7miles) = OK, 11am drive home for lunch = OK, 1230 - back to work = NOT COOLING, 4pm - drive home = OK. It appears to work initially when I turn the car on, but after about 10 seconds it starts blowing warm air, though not as warm as it is outside (we've have a few 90+ degree days). It seems that the car needs to sit for a few hours before the AC starts blowing COLD air again.
I know it's relative when it's hot out, the ac won't feel as cold but there is a BIG difference between the 4pm drive home and the 1230 drive back from lunch. I've read about shimming, replacing the compressor/clutch, but not too sure this will fix the problem. Could it be now the temp gauge is broken that's cause the issue? It has some other electrical problems such as the radio skipping from AM to FM to CD on it's own but that's been going on for a while and seems to go away once the car's been running for a while.
Thanks in advance to anyone that can help! (Sorry for being long winded here)
