98 v70 fuel pump

98 v70 fuel pump
I am trying to figure out whether my v70 turbo has one or two fuel pumps. I hear it turn on in the passenger side rear seat area. The problem is ,is that it does not come on every time. I just replaced the relay ,the big red one but that didn't do anything. So now I'm trying to figure out if the fuel pump is faulty and which one is it if there are two.I'm assuming that there is one in the tank and another somewhere else. Is there some simple test that I can do before dropping the tank. Thanks for any suggestions.

I am quite sure your V70 FWD is same as 850 in that it has an access cover to get to the fuel pump. There's only the one pump in the tank. Only on the AWD models do you have to drop the tank to get to the fuel pump.
Did you replace the fuel pump relay (i don't know what the big red one is..)?
To verify it's the pump, you can pop the access cover off, and next time it doesn't start (or dies), then rap on the top of the pump assembly. If it starts working, even briefly, then it's time for a new pump...

you can access it thru the inside, just behide the middle seats. 4 10mm nuts and there it is.

Hi peeps, just wondering I have a 1998 volvo v70 turbo AWD and the fuel pump which is situated inside the tank has gone, and unfortunately I have to drop the tank to put the new pump in. I took off the plastic cover underneath the car and the metal band which seems to be holding the tank in but i cant see any other means of it coming off, obviously thinking it was going to be a doddle how does the fuel tank come out? whats the process? Id appreciate any suggestions
