RE: S80 computer reset
Any other ideas besides the battery disconnect ? How does the dealer do it ? I've supported my dealer since the car was new . But hate to pay shop hours for a item that should not take an hour to do . Thx in advance for your replys . Sometimes , being a woman you can't help thinking are they taking advantage of me ? I bought my car new and absolutely love it still .

RE: S80 computer reset
It is storing the code in the PCM, the computer. The computer has it's own onboard battery source so it doesn't forget certain things if it loses power. Just like if you take the cord out of your computer right now and plug it in, it will still know what time it is and all the files it saved will be there. Dealer will connect a computer and communicate with the vehicle to clear the code.

No Auto Zone, O Reillys or any auto parts store are supposed to clear codes, only read codes in hopes to sell you auto parts. But I have been to a few of them that will let you use there reader to clear you're code/codes.

Maybe they are not suppose to, but a Pep Boys read and cleared the code on my 2001 Passat about a year ago.
