i have built alot of mustangs and ls1 cars but im selling my high 11's ls1 formula and thinking about getting a s80. what would it take to get a stock s80 to run mid 13's what year should i look for i know that the 99's had tranny problems. thanks for the help guys

 

Well IMO the s80 platform wouldn't be the best platform to do this on.

1. They are heavy.

2. If you got the N/A model you would have some serious modding to do.

3. If you bought thr T6 model you would still have serious modding to do.

IMO I would get an s60R, V70R or C70 LPT or HPT/S70 turbo, T5 or even an older 850 Turbo, T5R, R model

What would it take to get an s80 running like that. I would say but am not definant on it but...

1. Major weight loss in general. I mean remove all the seats and replace the drivers with a racing seat. Also remove the carpets. Instead of glass put in something lighter, remove the headliner, look into custom Fiberglass hoods and trunk lids and or a custom Caron Fiber hood and trunk lid, Remove the door panels and replace with Carbon Fiber versions or delete all together, Removed the stereo system Etc...

2. With an N/A you would be looking into a custom turbo setup or supercharger setup and beefed up everything. Etc...

3. In a T6 model you would be looking at bigger turbos, better intercooler, beefed up internal, better tranny, bigger exhaust, major ECU tuning, Etc...

In either event you would be looking at SS brake lines, BBK (Big Brake Kit), better tires. This is just a basic idea. You would need a lot more then this.

 

IMO, S60 is the only one better for tuning. S80 has a better over all design than the rest, making up for that couple hundred pound difference. FYI, the S80 come with a higher end package than the S60.

I mean you could try picking up an S80T6 and doing a 3" mandrel bent downpipes to a 2.5" mandrel bent catback system with free flowing muffler and an ECU tune and see what you can in the 1/4 mile.

But I doubt you will be down in the 13's. Volvo's are heavy beasts.

 

I believe the s80 T6's 1/4 mile time is like 15 seconds.

 

I forgot to add exhaust. Dual, real dual, a pipe for each turbo, catless...

 

does anyone know the stock turbo size and manufacturer of the s80 t6? also does anyone know of a company that offers upgraded tor conveters?

 

I would get a S60 if I was going to try and race a Volvo. And even then I think there are much better cars to tune out there.
